Overview
Mount Marty University is pleased to accept applications for the position of Assistant Professor of History. This is a full time, nine-month, tenure track appointment - beginning in the fall of 2025. This position plays a vital role within the institution’s rich Catholic Benedictine and Liberal Arts tradition. The history program at Mount Marty prepares students for diverse paths, including graduate studies, law school, teaching, and careers that foster personal growth and service to the community. The successful candidate will join an engaged, mission-driven academic community dedicated to providing students with the knowledge and skills needed to contribute meaningfully to our contemporary world.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will be a history generalist capable of teaching a wide range of courses that support the university’s General Education programming as well as the History and History Education majors. Courses taught in this role may include foundational subjects such as Ancient and Medieval World Cultures, U.S. History, and Constitutional History, as well as specialized courses like U.S. Diplomatic History, History of Christianity, and studies of the Korean and Vietnam Wars. The department seeks an educator passionate about fostering historical inquiry and critical thinking, and who is committed to upholding the university’s Benedictine mission of service, intellectual development, and community engagement. The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in history (or a related area at the Ph.D. level with a master’s in history) at the time of appointment (ABD will be considered). The ideal candidate will also have teaching experience at the secondary and/or post-secondary level.
