Executive Director
Position Description
The Friends of the Missouri National Recreational River (FOMNRR) is seeking an Executive Director with nonprofit leadership experience and a passion for conservation and outdoor recreation to help build an effective organizational structure and forward-looking strategies. This person will work closely with the Board to revitalize the organization, strengthen existing programs, and expand community impact through regional outreach which will grow membership, inspire volunteerism, build partnerships, and secure funding for current and future projects.
Duties and responsibilities
- Board Leadership & Governance: Organize board meetings, set agendas, report progress, recruit board members, and maintain a productive working relationship with the Board.
- Strategic Direction: Oversee strategic planning; review and refine the mission, bylaws, goals, and board structure; and work with the Board to identify strengths, weaknesses, and needed changes.
- Communication & Collaboration: Communicate effectively with Board members, committees, National Park Service staff, and Missouri River Event organizers to support organizational goals.
- Fundraising & Community Engagement: Grow membership and donations by securing major gifts and grants, and communicating effectively with individuals, businesses, foundations, and diverse community partners.
- Organizational Management: Strengthen FOMNRR’s structure through committee development, volunteer programs, and oversight of operations, programs, and projects.
- Marketing & Community Engagement: Build key relationships, enhance FOMNRR’s visibility, and lead outreach efforts through strategic communications, social media, and marketing initiatives to engage individuals, organizations, and diverse communities.

- Initiate new ideas, follow through on priorities while respecting diverse cultures and perspectives
- Maintain focus on organizational goals while balancing Board oversight
- Exhibit a strong work ethic and openness to constructive feedback
- Drive FOMNRR’s outreach and visibility by crafting compelling content, designing engaging materials, and leading strategic marketing initiatives that connect with diverse audiences.
- Oversee financial operations, including budgeting, reporting, and fiscal management, with proficiency in QuickBooks or similar accounting software.
Additional Information
- Remote work with a flexible work schedule of 30 hours weekly on average
- This position will require driving throughout the MNRR (Missouri National Recreational River) region to attend events and connect with partners. A residence within 30 miles of the MNRR corridor is required.
- Annual salary of $50,000 annually (approximately $32.00 per hour) with negotiable benefits.
