Overview
The Director of Student Life is responsible for the development and engagement of student-driven clubs and organizations and works with campus leadership to ensure that co-curricular and extracurricular activities align with the mission, vision, and core Benedictine values of MMU. The Director assists in building a positive campus experience for students by working with students, faculty and staff to plan campus programs, activities and services that promote retention and student success. The Director provides ongoing support and advocacy to students and staff to ensure Mount Marty University is investing in students now and preparing them for life after graduation. Due to the nature of activities and programming, evening and weekend work is frequently involved.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a comprehensive programming model to enhance student engagement, foster a sense of community and participation in university activities.
- Oversee the planning and execution of campus events, including student clubs, organizations, and other student-led initiatives.
- Collaborate with various departments and student groups to create and market programming that promotes high-quality student life experiences and holistic well-being
- Manage the New Student Orientation and 6 week programming to ensure a smooth transition for incoming students.
- Oversee co-curricular student activity programs and events, focusing on the Student Government Association (SGA), intramural sports, student clubs and organizations.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to emerging student leaders and faculty advisors.
- Advocate for student leaders and organizations, representing their interests and needs at the administrative level.
- Manage budget allocations for student events and activities, and approve related contracts.
- Plan and execute campus programs such as welcome week, homecoming, and targeted major events as directed by the VPSS.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with students through regular interactions.
- Promote awareness and utilization of on-campus services such as academic support, counseling, and accessibility services.
- Establish and maintain a working knowledge of campus services, programs, resources, and other opportunities to aid in the retention and success of all students
- Directs students to resources, policies, and procedures to address personal or academic concerns.
- Works with faculty, staff, and administration to address and respond to student concerns and needs.
- Assists with addressing and responding to student complaints and grievances.
- Serves as back-up student conduct officer for the Chief Conduct Officer.
- Establish and manage a data collection process to track student’s engagement and interests; ensure that assessment and analysis are part of all programs.
- Coordinates the campus Care Team, Cellar, Emergency Aid funds.
- Adapt to flexible scheduling, including early morning, late evening, weekend activities.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree required
- A Master’s degree in Student Personnel, Student Development, Counseling, Educational Administration or related field (preferred)
- Minimum of five (5) years' experience in Student Affairs, college student personnel, higher education administration, or related field with demonstration of progressive leadership and responsibilities
- Minimum of three (3) years' experience in programming and event management on a collegiate level
- Experience working and providing intervention to college students lacking basic needs and other barriers to well-being
- Experience with student conduct
