DESCRIPTION:Join author with local roots\, Naomi Yaeger\, for a historical storytelling program based on her book Blooming Hollyhocks: Tales of Joy During Hard Times.\n\nThrough readings\, stories\, and historical context\, Naomi shares the experiences of a Midwestern family with roots near Gayville\, SD and Yankton\, SD who lived through the Great Depression and the WWII home front. Her book tells the stories of children attending a one-room schoolhouse on the Yankton/Clay County line. This engaging program offers a glimpse into everyday life on the Plains highlighting resilience\, community\, and the small moments of joy that carried people through difficult times.\n\nThe presentation also includes a few familiar folk songs from the era performed by Naomi's husband\, Terry\, on banjo\, along with light audience interaction and trivia. Attendees also get the chance to make a cornhusk doll if they wish!\n\nThe public is invited Saturday\, April 18 presentation starting at 1:30. The museum is open until 4pm. This is a free-will donation event.
